The Players Studio offers a diverse set of programming for actor’s of all ages and abilities that is designed to cultivate craft, broaden the mind, and grow artistic abilities. Our resident teaching artists within acting are trained and come with a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you reach your goals as a new or seasoned actor.

Join our intensive adult acting class, “Mastering the Stage” where you will learn to become a connected actor and artist. Students will learn to discover their inner self and be able to convey truthful and honest storytelling. The class will consist of group and individual exercises and develop physical awareness, concentration, and trust within a theatrical troupe. Students will be given the theatrical tools to trust themselves and begin their own creative journey. We will work on poems, monologues, scene work, and musical exercises so you can truly develop your craft. “Mastering the Class” will help you unlock your true artistic potential!
Join director, actor, and teacher Scott keys, in creating and learning about the art of devised theater. In this unique class, Devised theatre – frequently called collective creation – Students will learn this method of theatre-making in which the script or performance score originates from collaborative, often improvisatory work by a performing ensemble. It can be devised from a theme, a real life event, a painting, a poem, newspaper articles, etc… Through a series of guided discussions, exercises both physical and written, and improvisation, the group will create a unique theatrical piece using original and/or found work and may include movement, music, poetry, monologues, and a variety of theatrical forms.Come ready to challenge yourself and to explore and create together.
Acting for the stage will begin to introduce students to scripted characters and develop an understanding of genre, theme, and style of shows, and how these elements play parts in how different characters are portrayed. Student Actors will learn to refine characters and learn more technical elements of blocking and staging scenes. Students will join in on fun theater games and activities to enhance the learning experience and to form friendships and learn to work as an ensemble.
For teens looking to advance their acting technique and understanding of character development. This classes will dive into script and character analysis to help actors learn the in-depth process of character development on the stage. Actors will perform scenes and monologues from plays and perform them for the Semester 1 showcase. Actors will put together a showcase of scenes and monologues to be performed in the Players Theater Black Box. Scenes chosen will be chosen from plays with complex characters to challenge these Student Actors further. Also a little fun and games!
Students in Level 2 will spend time learning through movement and theater games. They will learn more about auditions and will hold mock auditions. The students in this class will learn how to create characters and will learn development through movement and fun. Student Actors will spend time developing scripts and characters and perform and original short play at the end of semester showcase.
Student Actors will begin to learn characterization through movement and theater techniques. They will Learn ensemble building skills through group work and theater games and will work together and individually to bring stories to life using their minds and bodies to create fun and wacky characters. They will begin to talk about story structure as they identify the parts of the story and pull important elements out to put together a performance. Student Actors will develop the skills necessary to grow as actors and performers learning theater terminology, stage directions, and on stage etiquette. As they move through each level they will build upon their skills creating well rounded performers. Students will perform in the acting showcase at the end of each semester.
