The Players Studio has classes for children as young as three years old through adult. There is a variety of classes offering instruction in Acting, Singing, and Dancing for all levels of experience. We also offer a variety of workshops to refine your skills.

A group of talented youth ranging from ages 7-17 that audition to be a part of this performing group.  The Players Kids represent The Players Studio at community events, public appearances, and in a staged production.

The Players Follies 

The Players Follies, a 50+ performing troupe, represent The Players Theatre at community events, public appearances, a play reading on The Players Cabaret stage, and in a staged production in April 2016. This troupe is an outlet for performers to gain camaraderie, support, and have the chance to express themselves theatrically.

The Flash Tappers 

The Players Flash Tappers is an advanced adult group, age 18 and up, whose main focus is technique, style, precision and skill. The group will perform at community events, public appearances, and perform dances in our Holiday Revue, Year-End Showcase, The Players Follies show, as well as present their own show in our Backstage Theatre in April 2017.  

Auditions for The Players Teens will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 at 5pm under the direction of Amanda Heisey.
Students between the ages of 12-17 should come prepared with a 1 minute monologue. Upon acceptance in The Players Teens, students must register in a class of choice as well as attend regularly scheduled Tuesday evening rehearsals. A $150 annual fee includes rehearsal time and a limited edition tee shirt.
Limited absences are allowed.
The Players Teens 2017-2018 will be presenting
a play in our Backstage Theatre in April 2018

THE PLAYERS DANCE COMPANY
Auditions for The Players Dance Company will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 under the direction of Logan Junkins and Brian Finnerty.
Students ages 10 through 12 audition at 2pm and ages 13 through 18 audition at 3pm. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to the audition time. Please wear a leotard and tights with dance shorts, and hair in a bun with bangs off your face. Bring ballet and jazz shoes. Upon acceptance into The Players Dance Company students must register in the appropriate ballet, jazz and company class under the guidance of the directors.
Limited absences are allowed.
Company class will meet weekly on Saturday.
The Players Dance Company will attend dance competitions within the state.

 

 

Jolie Schroeder, Director of Operations, joined The Players during the summer of 1996.  Ms. Schroeder is responsible for office operations and procedures for the box office as well as supervising all aspects of The Players Studio, including establishing curriculum, hiring instructors, coordinating community events, and overseeing performance groups.  She is very proud of the accomplishments of The Players Kids, most recently a High Gold Award for their performance of “Freak Flag” from Shrek the Musical.  A Sarasota resident since 1986, Ms Schroeder has 23 years of experience in the operations of performing arts businesses.  school@theplayers.org

DANCE! Through the Ages | June 4-29 (4 weeks) $500
Learn 10+ forms of dance and where they come from. Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern, Swing, Tango, Waltz, Musical Theatre, and more. We will be learning combinations from famous Broadway shows and music videos. Try old styles, and new choreography.

CATS | July 9-20 (2 weeks) $250
Ever want to learn the choreography from this famous musical? Well here is a show that challenges your dance skills and proves it’s a ton of fun to be a cat! This two week dance camp will teach the original choreography from this spectacular show and give every dancer the chance to play these iconic feline characters.

Are you interested in Joining The Players Dance Company? Well here is your chance to see what it’s like! An intensive two weeks of dancing many styles will push your skills to the limit. Share the passion of dance with your fellow dancers and dance like no one is watching!

Workshops

Find Your 16 Bars (ages 13-adult) $110

This weekly class will focus on finding the best 16 bar cut of a song for musical theatre auditions. While it will be a class setting, the class will utilize individualized attention to each student.

Introduction to Voice Over (ages 13-adult) $200
Monday 5:00-7:00pm Instructor: John Burr
This 8-week workshop will explain why voice over is an important field for actors, how the business works, and how it has evolved. You will learn the fundamentals of voice over delivery and perform varied voice over reads, supported by coaching and critique. Don’t miss this opportunity to find out for yourself if you have what it takes to build a part or full-time career in this most interesting and challenging field.
This workshop is limited to 12 students

Heels Class (ages 13-adult) $75
Thursday 5:00-6:00pm Instructor: Berry Ayers
Have you ever wanted to learn how to really walk or dance in heels? Do you frequently get cast in shows where you are asked to “tip” or “showgirl walk”? Well this class is for you! Open to both men and women, we will show you how to rock those heels. You provide your own heels and we’ll provide the fun!

Work Your Monologue (ages 13-adult) $50

Choosing the right monologue for an audition is important. How you perform it is even MORE important. Are you making the right choices with your audition material? Get the coaching you need, and learn from watching your classmates in this class that will make you more confident and better prepared for that next audition!

Experience the magic of classic characters as you explore tales like The Princess and the Pea, Aladdin and Frozen through scenes, songs and dances.

Write your own “Whodunnit,” be a villain, detective or victim while playing a real life game of Clue with songs and dances.

Dr. Seuss | June 18-22 $150
One crow, two crow, let’s do a show! Create scenes from your favorite Dr. Seuss books and learn numbers from Seussical the Musical.

Superheroes | June 25-29 $150
Capes and masks are all part of this creative storytelling class. Using the power of
imagination students can create their own super heroes that save the world through dance, song and scenes.

Broadway Cabaret | July 9-13 $150
Do you like to sing, act and dance? Build your own Broadway revue while learning classic numbers and the latest offerings from The Great White Way.

Pirates & Mermaids | July 16-20 $150
Ahoy matey! Students will have fun acting out scenes and songs from Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid among others.

Star Wars | July 23-27 $150
Are you a Jedi or Sith? Learn to use the Force through creative dramatics with basic stage combat techniques to stage an epic battle.
(Includes a take home a practice light saber.)

Vampires & Zombies | July 30-August 3 $150
Are you more of a zombie or more of a vampire? Maybe both. Learn to do specialty stage makeup, dance to songs like Thriller and Time Warp, and learn scenes and music from The Addams Family and The Phantom of the Opera.

Each Friday will be a short “In”formance for parents.

  • Plays should be 1 to 10 minutes in length
  • Max. number of performers needed to produce this play is 8. Playwrights are asked to delineate if there are multiple roles that can be doubled.
  • Manuscripts must be typed and bound, with playwrights’ biographies included.
  • No evaluations will be rendered with an rejected entries.
  • Author may submit a maximum of three scripts.
  • Published plays are not eligible.

Berry Ayers (Director of Music) attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music for Musical Theatre, and has theatre credits including performances Off-Broadway and a National Tour of the musical A Chorus Line. He has performed at The Players in roles such as Albin/Zaza in La Cage Aux Folles and Tito Morelli in Lend Me A Tenor. His Musical Direction works also include The Players acclaimed production of The Who’s Tommy, Seussical; the Musical, Legally Blonde and Footloose. Berry choreographed the sell out performances of A Chorus Line, and directed Applause, Carousel, A Christmas Story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and several revues for The Players Follies.

Miranda Becker is excited to be joining The Players staff this year after four years of working as a freelance makeup artist and intern for The Players Make-Up Workshop. She has also worked as makeup designer on numerous shows at The Players such as The Addams Family, Cabaret, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Cyrano De Burgershack, as well as The Players Kids and summer camp shows.

Nancy Creighton moved to Sarasota from Milwaukee where she owned her own successful dance studio. She danced, taught and choreographed for her studio’s performance company and has 20 years of dance recital performances. Nancy teaches ballet, jazz, tap and musical theatre dance. She trained with Gus and Nan Giordano, Lane Alexander and Jay Fagan. She holds a degree in Physical Education and Dance from the University of WI. Nancy is happy to be teaching with The Players.

Diana Dizon began her ballet training at her parent’s studio, the Diane Partington Studio of Classical Ballet, at the age of four. She has trained at the Next Generation Ballet in Tampa, under the direction of Peter Stark and Ivonne Lemus, the Boston Ballet ll where she performed in various productions including The Nutcracker and Mikko Nissinen’s World premiere of Swan Lake and has since been seen onstage as Cha-Cha in Grease at SCF, and has been dance captain for local productions of Grease at SCF and Footloose at The Players Centre. Other training includes the School of American Ballet, Next Generation Ballet, Chautauqua Institute of Dance, Orlando Ballet, Saratoga Summer Dance Intensive and the Carreno Dance Festival.

Brian F. Finnerty got his start as a competition dancer. Brian dived into his love of singing and acting at Booker High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Program, then later majored in Musical Theatre at Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts. He has choreographed multiple productions in the area such as; Big Fish, Vaudeville’s Dead, Christmas Belles of ’45: An Offensive Radio Play, YANK: A WII Love Story, High School Musical, Six Women with Brain Death, and is looking forward to choreographing Singin’ in the Rain this season! Brian holds scholarships and awards rewarded by Dance Masters of America, Mia Michaels, Sonya Tayeh, and Anthony Morigeratoratto (Operation Tap Inc). “What seems so hard now, will one day be your warm up.”

Cinda Goeken grew up in Central Illinois and earned a B.F.A. in Drama from Illinois Wesleyan University. After pursuing a professional career in the field of mental health/rehabilitation for many years, she now devotes her time to participating in theatre in the area, both onstage and behind the scenes as an actor, singer, director, stage manager and crew person. She has been teaching acting and singing fundamentals to students on a one-to-one basis for many years, thus bringing a breadth and depth of knowledge and experience.

Alyssa Goudy is happy to work with The Players Kids as co-director/choreographer. Alyssa has a Bachelors in Theater Studies with honors from Anderson University. She has worked with The Players Summer Camps for many years, as well as designed for Players Kids main stage shows, teaches private lessons and substitutes for several classes. She is the Production Manager for The Players Centre and is frequently Stage Managing and performing for our main stage as well.

Amanda Heisey has been performing since she was a child. She has a Bachelors of Journalism from The University of Missouri and after working for various news outlets finally returned to her passion for the arts by becoming the Communications Manager for the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. Now, she is thrilled to be the Project Manager for The Players Centre. Favorite stage credits include: Linda in Blood Brothers; Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show; Hair directed by Ben Vereen at Venice Theatre, Nicki in Sweet Charity ; Gillian in Bell, Book and Candle; Maggie in Lend Me A Tenor at The Players Centre and Cats for Manatee Performing Arts Center.

Logan Junkins is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Manhattan, New York where he trained in theater dance, voice and acting. Logan is also trained as a character performer and performed for Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA for 3 years. He toured with the USO, and Sesame Street Live before moving to Sarasota where he has starred in many shows. He most recently appeared in La Cage aux Folles for The Players Centre, A Chorus Line and Cats for Manatee Performing Arts Center, and Hair directed by Ben Vereen at the Venice Theater.

Jeffery Kin enjoys his time onstage, offstage, backstage and in front of the stage, and finds time for all of these stages as the Artistic Director at The Players Centre. As an actor he has performed such roles as Max in Lend Me A Tenor, Guido in Nine, and Zach in A Chorus Line. As a playwright, his plays have been produced in venues across the country and have won numerous awards. Jeffery holds a BFA in Performance from Otterbein University and is a proud supporter of volunteerism and the fine arts!

Mike McManus attended the famed American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. While in Manhattan he studied with many of America’s great dance talents including Henry LaTang, Mary Jane Brown, Charles Kelley, Jerry Ames and Phil Cook. Mike also had the privilege of taking classes with Patsy Swayze (Patrick Swayze’s Mom) in Houston, Texas. Mike also works at local retirement centers presenting Steven Vincent’s Movement Magic exercise program for seniors. He has taught dance for The Players for over 20 years.

Elliot Raines is a former Brooklynite. Elliott received his MFA in Acting from the University of Illinois, where he taught acting for a year; and his Law Degree from Brooklyn Law School. A practicing Attorney for 22 years, Elliott performed in New York City as both an actor and director while continuing his law practice. Elliott has been directing at The Players since 2009. He is also the founder and guiding force of Two Chairs Theatre Company, whose mission is to bring the works of the great 20th Century playwrights to the Sarasota stage.

Anna Riccardo graduated from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania in 2004 with a B.S. degree in Business Management and Marketing. While in college, she studied ballet, jazz, creative movement, and acting. She was a dancer with the Emotion Dance Club and also served as choreographer. Anna grew up studying all forms of dance at the Linn McDonald School of Dance in Scranton, PA, where she also served as an assistant teacher. She performed in many full length ballets and participated in a children’s series of shows at the Pocono Playhouse. Since moving to Florida in 2004, she has taught dance in Port Charlotte, Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch.

Kay Siebold has been teaching tap dancing for over 30 years. She owned and operated “K’s Dance Schools” in the states and in Saudi Arabia where she also had the opportunity to teach Arabian princesses. Kay studied under numerous dancers, and has had award winning competition students, some chosen to perform in TAMPA BAY TAPS faculty show. She has completed both Debbi Dee’s Tap Teacher Intensive Workshops. Kay has appeared in numerous Players productions including The Producers, Seussical, 9 to 5, Dear World, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and La Cage aux Folles to name a few. Kay is currently the Director/Choreographer for The Flash Tappers.
