Congratulations to the winner of the 2018 New Play Festival

From July 23 -27, The Players Centre for Performing Arts hosted a new play written by a local playwright every night in readers-style theatre. These plays were judged and that winner has been selected to be produced in the backstage theatre July 23 – 28, 2019.

Congratulations to The Wonder of our Stage written by Monica Cross and directed by Candace Artim! The play is a thrilling look at the Elizabethan era and the idea that William Shakespeare was actually an automaton that was built and created for the queen.

“The judges of the contest and I deliberated on all five plays and found great qualities in all,” says Artistic Director Jeffery Kin. “Each playwright really gained great insight into their works to enable them to take the plays to the next level. It really was a win/win for everyone.”

The runner up was Ron Pantello’s play Something Love Can’t Fix directed by Amanda Schlacter, a beautiful play about a family dealing with a family member with dementia.
